We build the Oaken Bookshelf entirely from solid white oak sourced from sustainably managed forests in the northeastern United States. Unlike furniture made with veneers or composite materials, every component uses full-thickness hardwood that can be refinished and repaired for generations.
Our craftspeople cut traditional mortise-and-tenon joints at each connection point, securing them with wooden pegs and wood glue. This centuries-old technique creates joints stronger than the surrounding wood itself. The frame remains rock-solid even when fully loaded, with no wobble or flex.

Natural oil finish & wood care
We finish every Oaken Bookshelf with multiple coats of natural hardwax oil, hand-rubbed to create a lustrous, touchable surface. This finish penetrates the wood fibers rather than sitting on top like polyurethane, allowing the oak’s natural texture and warmth to come through.
The oil finish provides water resistance for everyday use while remaining easy to maintain and refresh over the years. Simply wipe spills immediately with a soft cloth. For routine cleaning, use a barely damp microfiber cloth followed by a dry cloth.
